We recently had the pleasure of hosting a group of high school students across Virginia at our headquarters as part of the Virginia Bankers Association’s (VBA) Bank Day program. This initiative offers students a firsthand look at the banking industry, emphasizing both the operational aspects of banking and the vital role banks play in supporting communities.

Throughout the day, students not only delved into various aspects of our bank’s operations, learning about financial products and services and exploring different career paths within banking, but also gained valuable insights into how our bank actively contributes to the local community.

Interactive sessions with our team allowed students to ask insightful questions, fostering a deeper understanding of the industry’s inner workings and the potential impact of a career in banking. Exploring the day-to-day operations of a bank branch, students gained practical knowledge that sparked their interest in possible future careers.

One of the highlights of the day was our discussion on community engagement. We shared how Movement Bank actively participates in local events, sponsors community initiatives, and provides financial literacy workshops to support our community’s economic growth and well-being. Additionally, our bank is committed to fostering financial literacy in local schools, empowering students with essential knowledge and skills to make informed financial decisions about saving money and building credit. By emphasizing the importance of giving back and promoting financial education, students gained a broader perspective on banks’ role beyond monetary transactions.

As the day concluded, students had the opportunity to tour our branch, where they met with personal bankers and gained firsthand insights into the daily operations of a bank branch. Inspired by their experiences, students left not only considering careers in banking but also eager to contribute to their communities. Armed with newfound knowledge and enthusiasm, they are now preparing to submit essays for a chance to win one of six available scholarships sponsored by VBA.
