As we celebrate Black History Month, join us on a journey through the inspiring legacy of Movement Bank and its visionary founders. From our roots to the present, we’re devoted to shaping a brighter future while honoring our rich heritage.
In 1919, a beacon of hope emerged in Danville, VA, as 21 black visionaries gathered to establish The Savings Bank of Danville. Led by the Reverend Samuel Moses, they sold stock and raised capital, and on September 8, 1919, they opened the doors to economic empowerment.
Under the name First State Bank, the institution became a powerhouse, fueling Danville’s black economy, supporting entrepreneurs, financing churches, and playing a vital role in the civil rights movement. Discover how our Bank provided a financial footprint for black customers, laying the foundation for shaping a brighter future.
Navigating through the challenges faced during the Great Depression and racial violence in the summer of 1963, the Bank not only weathered the storms but actively contributed to the fight for civil rights and paved the way for a more inclusive future.
In 2024, Movement Bank stands as a testament to progress while preserving its rich heritage. Casey Crawford, our Chairman, envisions a future where the legacy continues. Movement Bank is committed to redefining the standards in the financial industry, shaping a more equitable and promising future.
Our innovative banking products include Personal and Business Checking, Savings, and CD solutions, as well as Commercial Lending and Home Lending. We’ve designed our products to serve all communities and people with the same spirit of inclusivity that inspired our founders.
